VOLUNTEER!

Sponsor Our Student Volunteers

At no point in our history is it more important to provide our youth with positive and meaningful life experiences. As a sponsor of our student volunteer program, you are supporting young adults who are eager to donate their time in the National Parks. Your sponsorship makes it possible for them to enjoy the personal rewards of working to preserve our nation’s most cherished natural treasures.

Program Description:
Through a collaborative effort with the National Park Service, the Boys and Girls Clubs and the Police Activities League, this program utilizes the awe-inspiring beauty of our National Parks to impart in students of low-income families with an increased appreciation for nature and encourages them to participate as stewards of our public lands.

These six-day outdoor adventures contain the following four components:

  1. Outdoor education programs designed to increase the students’ appreciation for the parks’ rich biodiversity
  2. Volunteer opportunities to restore the parks’ world renown habitat and encourage the ongoing stewardship of the National Parks
  3. Explore careers in conservation and related fields, and
  4. Outdoor recreational opportunities that lead to healthy lifestyles

Program Objectives:
The objective is to use this rare landmark event in their lives to motivate these young volunteers to participate in the ongoing conservation of our public lands. This program aims to demonstrate to the students that sharing in the restoration and protection of federal, state and local public lands, is an essential part of enriched living in the United States. Convincing most young people to do hard physical work for several days on behalf of the common good is an ethic that is foreign to most nowadays. But by combining work with on-site, “insider” environmental education and recreation, a package is created that has proven irresistible to all but a few. Each and every expedition produces tangible results— trees planted, habitat restored or meadow reestablished. These outcomes spell success for every member on the team, and most look forward to on-going interaction with their contribution to the environment.

A Final Thought:
Lastly, your sponsorship would create more opportunities for underserved youth to engage in meaningful experiential learning in some of the most beautiful National Parks in the world. As they explore these breathtaking parks, the students will be inspired as they learn about these natural wonders and experience the personal rewards of taking an active role in their preservation. With your help, the students will experience the benefits of a wellness lifestyle that combines the intellectual, physical, and social domains of life.
