($195 w/ employer’s matching gift) The Big Sur coast of California offers one of the most spectacular coastlines in the world. From the crashing waves that pound the Big Sur cliffs to the teaming waters of the world famous Monterey Bay, volunteers will enjoy an unforgettable vacation as they explore California’s spectacular coastline.

Nature Corps has teamed up with the California State Parks to restore this world renowned coastline. Volunteers will rehabilitate the region’s coastal dunes and foothill habitats by collecting seeds of endangered flora, propagating the seeds in park nurseries, and planting native flora along the Big Sur coast.

Proceeds from your volunteer vacation tuition will be used to support our Student Volunteer program. For that reason, a portion of your tuition is tax deductible.

Earth Day Signature Project:

Preserving California’s Magnificent Big Sur

Volunteers are needed to help remove non-native vegetation that is aggressively overtaking Big Sur’s native flora and destroying key habitat. After volunteering, you will have time to enjoy this scenic wonder by taking a variety of hikes on remote beaches and VIP nature walks.

Day 1
The excursion begins at 2pm at our secluded base camp in the beautifully wooded Big Sur Campground. After everyone has settled in, we will enjoy a festive dinner under California’s star studded skies. After dinner, we will hike down to beautiful Pfeiffer Beach to watch the sun set into the glowing pacific. We’ll return to our base camp to gather around the evening campfire and savor warm drinks as we discuss our schedule of activities for the week.
Day 2
After waking up and preparing for our day in the field, we will gather for a hearty breakfast buffet. Once we arrive at the project site, park biologists will provide further information and direct us on this important conservation effort to restore Big Sur’s unique ecosystems. The project will wrap up by early afternoon at which time we will leave for Partington Cove, a little visited area but very beautiful section of Big Sur. The water in the cove is unbelievably aqua and within it grows incredible kelp forests. From there we will drive further south the highway to photograph beautiful McWay Falls, the only waterfall in Big Sur that spills into the Pacific. After dinner we will head to the Big Sur Roadhouse where we will enjoy musical entertainment at this casual gathering spot
Day 3
After a scrumptious breakfast we will break camp and head out to hike the spectacular cliffs and coastlines at Andrew Molera State Beach. There are amazing coastal features and beautiful beaches where we can relax and take in the sites. From there we will head north on world famous Highway One to visit the historic Big Sur Lighthouse. After enjoying our last hike together we’ll gather for a Farewell Ceremony and reflect upon our shared experiences on this extraordinary volunteer vacation.
